The quest for living a prolonged and healthy life has been an old one, as old as mankind itself. Ancient philosophers, yogis and medicine practitioners made some fascinating discoveries for treating ailments, diseases and unexplored health conditions.

Every human community had its version of ‘shamans’ and healers who would treat health distresses naturally, spiritually and emotionally. In this blog, we will visit 3 of these ancient medicine and healing techniques that the Government won’t bother telling you.

#1. Egyptians and the Willow Trees

The pain-relieving properties of Willow’s bark were proven by the Royal Society study in 1763. Until recently, Willows were only known for their painkilling properties – turned into the commercial ‘aspirin’ by pharma giant Bayer in 1915. Turns out, they can do much more than that.

Recent yearly studies, some 700-1000 in number, have revealed Willow tree’s amazing potential in preventing cancer naturally. Studies have also shown its effectiveness against the risk of stroke in adults. This secret natural healing properties of Willow were known by Egyptians much before the modern medical science.

#2. Ayurveda from India

Developed more than 3000 years ago in India, Ayurveda is based on the belief that three life forces or energies, known as doshas, control how the body works and influence the health conditions you are prone to developing.

They are vata (air), pitta (fire and water) and kapha (water and earth) and you can take online quizzes to check your predominant dosha.

Diet is a key part of Ayurveda for all three doshas as improper digestion is seen as the root cause of many disorders. While natural, unprocessed, mostly plant foods are the foundation of Ayurvedic eating, the way meals are prepared and when they are consumed is also important.

Use lots of delicious spices to aid digestion and support your natural immunity – turmeric, cumin, coriander, cardamom, cinnamon, saffron and ginger are all considered healing. In fact, Ayurveda was one of the first disciplines to identify the natural healing potential of cannabis (bhaang). You can read about the healing benefits of cannabis in our article here.

#3. Barring Negative Thoughts & Emotions with this Native American Trick

A majority of Native American tribes truly believed that health distresses could have both natural and supernatural underlying causes. Purification healing rituals were often employed to bring in good spirits and clear away anxieties, dark thoughts and negative-behaviour triggering emotions.

The most common Native American cleansing ritual is called ‘smudging.’ Even today, it is practised by the senior shamans of the community. Smudging involved burning herbs and plant resins in a clay bowl and fanning the smoke around the home using a feather.

A common herb used in the process of smudging was white sage which you can even buy online right now! As well as natural brain stimulants like Maeng Da Kratom, you can use this herb for its psychologically aesthetic benefits. The idea behind performing this ritual was simply addressing the ‘human psychological factor’ in case of a negative mental state and clearing the way for more positive thinking.
