HOW TO MAKE HOMEMADE NON-PETROLEUM JELLY (AKA DIY ‘VASELINE’)?

Have you ever found yourself in a situation where you need something to soothe your dry skin but can’t find anything around? Market-bought petroleum jelly contains harmful chemicals that may affect the skin negatively in the long run. A few months ago, I was getting ready for bed and realized that I needed a natural/homemade alternative to this daily-use product!

For a long time, I was using petroleum jelly. It’s inexpensive and easy to find in drug stores. But then I found out that it is made from crude oil, which means it has potential health and environmental risks.

That’s when I decided it was time to learn how to make homemade non-petroleum jelly (aka c’). The best part about making this homemade non-petroleum jelly (aka ‘Vaseline’) is that it can be made without any toxic ingredients or animal fat.

Here is how you can make your own non-petroleum jelly (Vaseline) 

Ingredients required 

• 1/8 cup grated beeswax (about 1 ounce).
• 1/2 cup cold-pressed Olive oil

Both the ingredients can be readily purchased online.

Steps to make non-petroleum ‘Vaseline’ 

Step #1.

Combine beeswax and oil in a small saucepan. Melt over very low heat or in the top of a double boiler. Pour into a jar to cool.

This is the cold-pressed Olive oil I use for everyday cooking.

Step #2. 

Melt beeswax and Olive oil together at a LOW HEAT. You can also use a double-boiler if you wish.

*The beeswax pellets will melt in the Olive oil very quickly even at very low flame temperature.

Step #3.

Pour the mix into a 1/2 pint mason jar and set it on the window ledge (or any other suitable cool place) in the kitchen with the window cracked open. It should approximately take 30 minutes to harden up.

Voila!
